Happy Bike Month Toronto!
The Bike Month Group Commute is the kick-off event for Bike Month in Toronto (a month later than a lot of cities in North America).
This year I was able to wake up on time and joined the group commute at Yonge and Bloor to ride down to City Hall a la Critical Mass style.
Cycle Toronto (formerly known as the Toronto Bike Union) is helping the city organize Bike Month this year and if today’s event is any indication, Bike Month events are going to be really well attended and have more reach due to better marketing by the Union.
Next to listening to Councillor Minnan-Wong’s hypocritical Bike Month proclamation (I wish I was closer so I could have heard the hecklers) and having a butter tart along with my pancake, the highlight of today’s event was riding the Couch Bike with Denise!
The Couch Bike is by Bicycle Forest and has been ridden all around PEI and gets rented out for weddings! It was a lot of fun riding the Couch Bike. Too bad I was several inches too short and we had to resort to having the owner of the Couch Bike to push us.
So have you decided which Bike Month events you are going to participate in?
